Performing Arts

We strive to provide students with opportunities in the arts which allow them to reach their full potential as performers and individuals. We encourage commitment, self-reliance, practice, friendship, and of course fun. Our students have received many awards and honors, and we're proud to be able to claim professional actors, musicians, dancers, and other performers among our many graduates. We encourage the performing arts by supporting high-quality theatre, band, choir, and dance programs.

Athletics

The BCPS has a long-standing history of excellent athletic opportunities for students. We have in-school and extracurricular events beginning in elementary school.

When students reach middle school, they are able to participate on competitive teams such as basketball, football, and volleyball; we have teams for both boys and girls in the 6th, 7th, and 8th grades. Student-athletes can really find a place to excel when they reach high school. The BCPS has boys and girls teams at the freshman, JV, and varsity levels in numerous sports such as football, basketball, tennis, swim, bowling, track, volleyball, and lacrosse.

We also have an excellent relationship with the Special Olympics and have nationally recognized chapters of Unified Champions. Our athletes participate in several competitive events all over the state.

STEM/STEAM

STEAM Explore Classes in our district are interdisciplinary, incorporating real-world lessons focusing on the world of global diversity. Rigorous, core curriculum is applied through STEAM-focused projects/activities. The “Engineering is Elementary” Curriculum is the primary resource, but many engineering challenges are presented to students in a hands-on, maker approach.

STEM education refers to the areas of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. STEAM education incorporates the “A” for the arts – recognizing that to be successful in technical fields, individuals must also be creative and use critical thinking skills which are best developed through exposure to the arts.

Advanced Placement (AP)

We offer more Advanced Placement, Honors, and Gifted & Talented classes than any other district in Bay County; these classes are for students who learned at an accelerated rate, or who desire an academic challenge. Beginning in elementary school, students are able to test into the GT Program. We have a Magnet GT Program at Kolb and GT classes in five other elementary buildings. In middle school, we offer GT classes for 6th and 7th graders and Honors classes in all cores for 8th graders. When students reach high school, they’re able to take Honors English, science, and social studies classes. We also offer AP classes in English, science, social studies, math, and technology.
